The Newcastle Brown Ale is probably my favorite beer of all. Granted I haven't tried every beer out there but hey, this was the best place to start. Considering the sheer number of different types, flavors, brands, breweries, and the fact that no two beers taste the same, starting with the Newcastle was the logical choice. Go with what you know as they say...
With that said, we'll get down to the brass tacks. I really like this beer. It is well made, deep-brown ale from the north end of the United Kingdom that was originally brewed by a federation of 5 English breweries. Three years after it was created in 1925, it won a number of gold medals at the International Brewery Awards, in 1928. And I completely understand why. The butterscotch/caramel flavor this beer imparts at the first sip is soft and sweet in comparison to the more bitter or sharper tastes of more popular German or American brands. A sweet, hoppy body with chocolate undertones really finish it off making this a very savory beer.
This beer is a very flexible beer as well. It can be consumed on almost any occasion, from enjoying a cool brew after mowing the lawn, drinking with your buddies, or serving dinner to your SO's family. Making it a true multi-tasker.
However, it does have downsides. In the next post I'll be discussing some of the companies responsible for brewing and importing this and many alcoholic beverages, and why these companies could be ruining the market.
